Intro to Classical Ballet (05002)

In this course, students will rotate through techniques and styles, with a focus on anatomically sound technique with respect for the specific needs and abilities of each individual. Rooted in a codified vocabulary, courses emphasize alignment, movement efficiency, musicality, spaciousness and expressivity.

 

Intro to Jazz (05003)

Jazz is an umbrella term encompassing several different styles of dance that became popular in the early 20th century. In this course, students will rotate through techniques and styles, with a focus on anatomically sound technique with respect for the specific needs and abilities of each individual. Rooted in codified vocabulary, courses emphasize alignment, movement efficiency, musically, spaciousness and expressivity.

 

Dance Performance (05001)

Credit: 1.0

 

 

In this course, students will work with the teacher to develop and choreograph their own performance numbers in a variety of styles such as ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, tap, Irish, etc.

Strength Training for Dancers (08005)

Credit: 1.0

 

 

In this course, students will strengthen and condition their core, improve flexibility, and improve arm and footwork through body conditioning. Classes begin with a warm up focusing on postural strength and alignment, followed by a series of upper body exercises using light weights. The ballet barre is used to sculpt the lower body, abs and for flexibility training.

 

Advanced Dance Performance (050012)

Credit: 1.0

Prerequisite: Dance Performance or dance teacher recommendation based on audition/previous dance class.

 

 

In this course, students will work with the teacher to develop and choreograph their own performance numbers in a variety of styles such as ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, tap, Irish, etc.
